Shiner Blonde

Today I review Shiner Blonde which according to their website is in the style of the original beers Brewed in the Spoetzl Brewery. Similar to my notes on Rahr's Blonde, it is in fact _not_ a Blonde Ale. It has however won awards as a Pilsner Lager.

As a Pils it does well, a nice crisp flavor and a slightly acidic bite followed by a moderate hops note. To the average beer drinker who has never had a European Pils it is likely even quite good. Frankly on a hot summer day after mowing the lawn it is pretty great. But the reality is that Shiner Blonde is pretty average in it's class. Certainly better than the drek many American companies pass off as a Pils but not keeping up with it's truly Bohemian brothers.

Over all A Base line Average beer. I'll keep drinking it mind you, if nothing else it trumps many others on availability alone in these parts.

Cap Scores:

Type:
Sigh like Rahr they get knocked for the "blonde" 7.00

Drinkability:
Clearly a nice thing to have on a hot summers day but put next to a Czech or German Pils... 7.00

Value: Average Price Good Availability, I give it a 7.5

Overall a 7.16 an enjoyably average beer.
