2 from Humperdinks

Well went down to a local Beer pub tonight.. a stand by and favorite of mine, Humperdink's here in Arlington Texas.

I had the Total Disorder Porter and the Big Red IPA.

We'll Start with the Porter.

For the most part it is a traditional porter but it has a chocolate malt adjunct that provides a nice kick reminiscent of hazel nuts. For fans of dark beers this one is a keeper and a stand by for me any time I stop in to Dinks.

On Type I give it 8.5 caps. It's a solid Porter no questions asked, but it ends up a bit light in the aftertaste richness. The chocolate component is quite tasty there at the back of the tongue though.

Drinkability is 8.5 caps. Porter fans will walk off with it given even half a chance.
Value is gonna be ... 7.5 caps. While it is at a brew pub the carry out growlers are reasonably priced and just short of equal to a six pack. However it's still a bit inconvenient to have to go get a growler from the bar rather than a six in the fridge.
Total: 8.16 caps

Next the Big Red IPA. Hops Bite: check, Higher than usual alcohol: not so much. Clearly an American IPA has a nice tannin flavor complex coming in after the initial hoppy bite. Aftertaste is a little on the acid / tannin side. Redish amber in color it is a nice beer for a hot day in North Texas.

Type 7 caps: Average in this class to most Commercial IPA's
Drinkability: 7 IPA Drinkers will enjoy when you hand it to em and might even have a second but they wouldn't steal it.

Other recommendations at Humperdinks... the bread pudding is to die for.
